## Why does Tether freeze USDT?

Tether freezes USDT when an address is linked to theft, hacks, scams, sanctions or a request from law enforcement. It adds the address to a blacklist inside the USDT smart contract, and from then on USDT on that address cannot be sent. Tether can later remove the address from the list or destroy the frozen tokens.

Contact the exchange or service that sent you the funds, then Tether support with the transaction ID. Only Tether can unfreeze an address. Be careful: people who promise to unfreeze USDT for a fee are usually scammers.

### How do I know if my USDT is frozen?

Tether marks a frozen address in the USDT contract (isBlackListed), and USDT on it cannot be sent. Until the checker is live, you can read that flag on a block explorer, or screen the address for risk and sanctions with the AML API.

### Which networks will the checker support?

Tron (TRC-20), Ethereum (ERC-20), BNB Smart Chain (BEP-20), Solana (SPL) and Polygon are planned. The final list is confirmed at launch.

### Do I need to connect my wallet?

No. The checker only reads public blockchain data. It never asks for a signature, a seed phrase or a wallet connection.
