# Uniswap

Uniswap is the governance token for the Ethereum based decentralized cryptocurrency exchange, UniSwap. As a governance token, UNI owners can vote on UniSwap developments and determine how the platform is run.

## A governance token

Although primarily a governance token, investors can also trade UNI on exchanges and treat it as a speculative investment. It can also be used to fund liquidity mining pools, grants, partnerships, and other growth-driven initiatives to expand Uniswap's usability and reach.
