# Watching exchange deposits on-chain

Crypto APIs reads the chain, not the exchange. Derive your deposit addresses from an xPub, get a webhook the moment a transfer settles, and reconcile your records against on-chain data — with a public key, no exchange credentials and no custody. This works the same way at every venue, because it never touches the venue.

## How it works

Three steps, and none of them touches an exchange account. You derive the addresses, we tell you the moment something lands on them, and the chain is the record you reconcile against.

1. **Derive your deposit addresses** — Sync an xPub — a public key, never a private one — and derive as many receiving addresses as you need. Crypto APIs tracks them from that point on.
2. **Get a webhook when a transfer confirms** — Subscribe to confirmed coin and token transactions on those addresses. The callback carries the transaction, the amount and the confirmation count, so you can credit an internal balance the moment it is safe to.
3. **Reconcile against on-chain data** — Read balances, transactions and token transfers for any address, current or historical, and check your own ledger against what actually settled.

### What exchange data does the API actually return?

Market data: exchange rates between assets, asset details and the list of supported assets. That comes from the [Market Data API](/products/market-data) and is blockchain-agnostic — the same call regardless of which chain an asset lives on.

### Can I trade or move funds on an exchange through this API?

No. We are blockchain infrastructure, not a broker and not a custodian — we hold no funds and place no orders. What we give you is the on-chain and market-rate data around a venue, and the tools to handle deposits and withdrawals on your own addresses.

### How do I track deposits from an exchange?

Derive a deposit address from your own extended public key, subscribe it to a confirmed-transaction [webhook](/products/blockchain-events), and you are notified when funds land — no polling, and the exchange never needs to know anything beyond the address.
